A contouring technique is a great way to enhance your face and shape your makeup. With a few simple steps, contouring can be done to make your cheekbones look more fashion-forward or subtle. This makeup trick is so popular that we all use it to paint our faces in tribe-like patterns, hoping it will create a bone structure.
If done properly, contouring can give the illusion of slimmer cheekbones, pinched noses, smaller foreheads, and defined jawlines. This is a smart way to enhance or alter your face shape. It allows you to highlight your favorite features and hide those that are not so favorite. You’ve come to the right spot if you’re new to contouring, have some questions, or just want to learn more.
Let’s take a look at these simple steps to contour like a pro:-
1. Finding Your Cream Contour Grail Product
Although contouring palettes were once a necessity, six-piece pans are now quite expensive. We don’t have one go-to product for cream contouring. We tend to use the following depending on what makeup style we are using on a particular day:
Choosing a concealer shade is a matter of personal preference. For more real shadows, choose a concealer that is two shades darker than your skin. For smooth, streak-free blending, choose formulas that dry quickly and provide medium to full coverage.
Cream foundation stick:-
We say you shouldn’t limit a product’s function to its label. You will be amazed at how many tricks you can discover by playing around. We discovered a way to use foundation sticks instead of contour sticks. This is a great way to get saturated color and maximum blendability.
If cream contour products seem too heavy or cream bronzers too warm, you might consider cream bronzers. This cream-to-powder contour and bronzer combination is our summer favorite for a quick and easy bronzed look. This formula is available in five shades and gives you the perfect bronzed contour to match your skin tone.
2. Picking The Right Tools
After you’ve figured out the cream contouring product, it’s time to choose your tool :-
Cream foundation or concealer? Use a damp beauty blender to blend and blur the results. A dense angled brush with cream-to-powder contour will make it easy to define and smoothen your contours in seconds.
Smaller areas such as the nose require a little more precision, so we use a small shader brush to apply makeup. We use a small blending tool and a little cream foundation to blur the contour lines.
3. Prepping Your Skin
This is a crucial step that will ensure your contours look smooth and not streaky. To prevent makeup from clumping around dry skin and lines, wash your face with a moisturizer. You can opt to use primer, but if you want to do a more complicated makeup look, it might be worth it.
Primer works as a buffer between your skin and your makeup products. This allows them to last longer and work better. Apply a little concealer and foundation to even out your skin, in shades that complement your skin’s undertone and natural tone. This will cover any discoloration or blemishes.
4. Learning The Art of Nose Contouring
Use a brown contouring color to draw two lines from the bridge of the nose all the way to the inner brows. For more definition, add a soft line to the tip of your nose. Next, blend your lines using a small eye shadow blending brush. You will have natural contours that look just like shadows from the inside.
Your forehead, bridge, browbones, chin, brow bone, cupid’s bow and across your eyes are all areas that naturally reflect light. You can use a concealer slightly lighter than your skin, shimmery, highlighter or illuminator or an eyeshadow that is slightly darker.
6. Sculpting Out Your Cheeks And Forehead
- To create defined cheekbones :- Apply your cream contouring formula starting at the ear and moving down to the hollows of the cheeks. End it adjacent to your outer eye.
- To create the illusion of a shorter hair:- Apply your contouring shade to your corners, sweeping it down with a lighter brush to achieve a gradient shadow. For a more lifted look, use a beauty sponge (or the fluffy side) to blend the lines.
